Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.54/7.2.8/7.3-rc4 CMF type confusion

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.111/6.18.54/7.2.8/7.3-rc4. Affected is an unknown part of the component CMF. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a type confusion vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-843. The product allocates or initializes a resource such as a pointer, object, or variable using one type, but it later accesses that resource using a type that is incompatible with the original type. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/cmf: Fix virtual vs physical address confusion The measurement block address is an absolute address. Define the associated schib_config and schib fields as dma64_t to enable automatic detection of incorrect assignments. Also add the missing virt_to_dma64() translation. Without this fix, a wrong address will be used by firmware when storing extended format channel measurement data on kernels built with CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_IDENTITY_BASE=y.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-98475 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/18/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.112, 6.18.55, 7.2.9 or 7.3-rc5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b11f369be31ea11c746833e4d3ad51dcd6b5fa2b/748ec2f7f5df9b4fc742546a8bfc8aa5d847353e/7f78226eb743b362f52b212d7763801642539d1c/f4d04425e66af2ecee9d1a49ae0484436f3c2fd1 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
