Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Netpbm up to 11.16.00. Affected by this vulnerability is the function pr_load_image of the file converter/other/rast.c of the component Sun rasterfile run-length decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Netpbm through 11.16.00 contains a heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the rasttopnm Sun rasterfile run-length decoder pr_load_image in converter/other/rast.c. Attackers can supply a byte-encoded rasterfile with tiny dimensions and a long run-length body to write controlled bytes past md_image, causing memory corruption and crashes.
The advisory is shared at hackmd.io. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-112275 since 10/19/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
