Details
A vulnerability was found in python-pillow Pillow. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function ImagingPaletteCacheUpdate of the component Palette Cache. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized resource vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-908. The product uses or accesses a resource that has not been initialized. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 9.1.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow can disclose uninitialized stack memory when Image.quantize() uses an empty palette. ImagingPaletteCacheUpdate() leaves a local cache array uninitialized when the palette has zero entries, and the conversion path emits those bytes as output pixel indices. An attacker who controls the palette image can obtain stack contents from a returned PNG or GIF. This can disclose addresses and stack-canary data without an out-of-bounds access, memory corruption, or process crash. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-112898 since 10/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 13.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
