Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in tox-dev filelock up to 4.2.0. Affected is an unknown function of the component SoftFileLock. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a toctou vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-367. The product checks the state of a resource before using that resource, but the resource's state can change between the check and the use in a way that invalidates the results of the check. This can cause the product to perform invalid actions when the resource is in an unexpected state. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
filelock is a platform-independent file lock for Python. From 4.1.0 until 4.2.1, SoftFileLock can restore a stale marker by name after moving it aside, allowing another local user with rename access in a non-sticky lock directory to swap in a symbolic link and, on a runtime that follows the link and a same-filesystem target, make the lock user hard-link one of its files into the lock directory. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.1.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-112914 since 10/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
