Details
A vulnerability was found in Eclipse Guix up to 6.5.1.202602a. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component JPEG decoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The GUIX software JPEG decoder reads four kinds of marker segment without checking that each is long enough to hold what it reads. A truncated segment is therefore read past the end of the caller's image buffer. Separately, a zero chroma sampling factor makes the block decode loop non-terminating. Both reproduce in the default configuration, in which `GX_SOFTWARE_DECODER_SUPPORT` is enabled.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-92454 since 09/23/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
Upgrading to version 6.5.2.202603 eliminates this vulnerability.
