Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in vitejs launch-editor and Vite up to 2.14.1. Affected is the function launchEditor of the component Option Parsing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

launch-editor allows users to open files with line numbers in editor from Node.js. Prior to 2.14.2, when an attacker can create a filesystem entry beginning with plus or minus in the working directory, an affected editor is selected, and the path can remain relative or is converted to a relative WSL path, launchEditor forwards the path without forcing it to be interpreted as a positional filename. Editor option parsing then treats the attacker-controlled filename as a command-line flag, which can cause unintended file overwrite or arbitrary command execution by the selected editor. The affected editors are Vim and gVim, MacVim, Emacs and Emacsclient, and Notepad++ when a plugin exposes dangerous operations; WSL path conversion keeps Vite and newer middleware callers exposed. This issue is fixed in version 2.14.2.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-112944 since 10/19/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

Upgrading to version 2.14.2 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-105045). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
