Details
A vulnerability has been found in FreeRDP up to 3.32.0 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function rdpsnd_server_select_format of the component rdpsnd channel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
FreeRDP before 3.32.1 contains a heap-based buffer overflow in the server-side rdpsnd channel because an integer wraparound in rdpsnd_server_select_format() DVI_ADPCM block-alignment arithmetic bypasses validation. A malicious RDP client can send two SNDC_FORMATS PDUs with an nBlockAlign too small for nChannels, causing an unbounded heap write during server audio playback, potentially enabling code execution.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-114045 since 10/20/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
