Details
A vulnerability was found in OpenStack Cinder up to 26.3.0/27.0.0/28.0.0/29.0.0. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Messages API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
In OpenStack Cinder through 29.0.0, cross-project information disclosure can occur in the Messages API. A non-admin user with the project-scoped 'member' or 'reader' role making the Block Storage API v3.3 "List messages" call finds the non-expired user messages for other projects included in the response, resulting in the leakage of UUIDs of resources owned by other projects, in addition to the user message about the other projects' resources (which, by design, are sanitized generic messages). All Cinder deployments are affected.
The advisory is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-93856 since 09/18/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
Upgrading to version 26.3.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
