Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Eclipse OpenJ9 up to 0.62. This issue affects the function DataDescriptor::getPayloadSize/DataDescriptor::getNextDescriptor of the component JITServer. The manipulation of the argument _size/_paddingSize/_dataOffset with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Eclipse OpenJ9 versions prior to 0.63.0, the JITServer component fails to perform cross-field validation on attacker-controlled `_size`, `_paddingSize`, and `_dataOffset` fields during `DataDescriptor` message deserialization. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted network payload that triggers an unsigned integer underflow in `DataDescriptor::getPayloadSize()` and `DataDescriptor::getNextDescriptor()`. This results in an out-of-bounds heap read and an immediate process crash (SIGSEGV), causing a denial of service.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-111075 since 10/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
