CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability categorized as problematic has been discovered in Apache bRPC up to 1.17.x. Affected by this vulnerability is the function UnparsedValue::as_string of the file src/mcpack2pb/parser.cpp of the component mcpack2pb. Such manipulation of the argument value_size leads to integer underflow. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-74755. The attack may be launched remotely. There is no exploit available. It is advisable to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Apache bRPC up to 1.17.x. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function UnparsedValue::as_string of the file src/mcpack2pb/parser.cpp of the component mcpack2pb. The manipulation of the argument value_size with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

An integer underflow in the mcpack2pb component of Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0) on all platforms allows remote attackers to crash a bRPC server by sending a request containing a string field with a zero value_size. The UnparsedValue::as_string() function computes `_size - 1` without validating `_size`; when value_size is 0 the expression underflows to SIZE_MAX, resize() throws std::length_error, and because the exception is not caught on the request parsing path the process aborts (SIGABRT). Root Cause: In src/mcpack2pb/parser.cpp, UnparsedValue::as_string() resizes the output string to `_size - 1`, where `_size` is the value_size of a string field taken directly from the network data. A value_size of 0 underflows the unsigned size_t, and the subsequent resize() throws an exception that is not caught. Affected Scenarios: bRPC servers that accept nshead frames wired to the ubrpc mcpack2 adaptor (for example the NsheadService + UbrpcMcpack2Adaptor deployment pattern) can be crashed by a single unauthenticated request. Stock open-source bRPC registers the ubrpc/nshead_mcpack protocols as client-only, so default server configurations are not affected. How to Fix: 1. Upgrade bRPC to a version that includes this fix. 2. Apply the patch in PR  https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3450

The advisory is available at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-74755 since 08/15/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/21/2026).

Upgrading to version 1.18.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3450 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
