Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Electron up to 42.11.2/43.6.x/44.2.x/45.0.0-alpha.4. Affected by this issue is the function setPermissionCheckHandler of the component Hid/Usb Permission Checks. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-domain policy vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-942. The product uses a cross-domain policy file that includes domains that should not be trusted. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Prior to versions 42.11.3, 43.7.0, 44.3.0, and 45.0.0-alpha.5, hid and usb permission checks made from an iframe caused setPermissionCheckHandler to receive the top-level frame's origin and details instead of the requesting frame's. An application that delegated hid or usb to a cross-origin untrusted iframe and allowed device access with origin-based logic could therefore grant that embedded frame access intended for the top-level page. This issue is fixed in versions 42.11.3, 43.7.0, 44.3.0, and 45.0.0-alpha.5.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-113800 since 10/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 42.11.3, 43.7.0, 44.3.0 or 45.0.0-alpha.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
