Red Hat Satellite 6 ca-certificates certificate validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes, Advanced Cluster Security, Assisted Installer for OpenShift Container Platform, cert-manager Operator for OpenShift, Confidential Compute Attestation, Connectivity Link 1, Enterprise Linux, Enterprise Linux 6, Enterprise Linux 7, Enterprise Linux 8, Enterprise Linux 9, Hardened Images, Kernel Module Management Operator for Openshift, Kube Descheduler Operator, Logging Subsystem for OpenShift, Logical Volume Manager Storage, Migration Toolkit for Applications, Migration Toolkit for Containers, Migration Toolkit for Virtualization, Multicluster Engine for Kubernetes, Network Observability Operator, OpenShift Container Platform, OpenShift distributed tracing, OpenShift for Windows Containers, OpenShift Serverless, OpenShift Service Mesh 3, OpenShift Virtualization 4, OpenShift Virtualization 5, Quay 3 and Satellite 6. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component ca-certificates. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a certificate validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-295. The product does not validate, or incorrectly validates, a certificate. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The system certificate authority (CA) store in Red Hat products, distributed via ca-certificates RPM packages, included multiple root CA certificates of authorities, which signed intermediate CA certificates with weak private keys issued by the eMudhra certificate authority. A man-in-the-middle attacker could use this flaw to issue certificates for arbitrary host names signed by the weak intermediate CA certificates, which would be considered trusted by a TLS/SSL client using system CA store and cause such clients to connect to malicious sites. Due to inability to only distrust specific intermediate certificates in all clients using the system CA store, root CA certificates of authorities that signed weak intermediate CA certificates are being removed.

The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-114406 since 10/21/2026. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/21/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1587.003 for this issue.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
