Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Roundcube Webmail up to 1.6.19/1.7.4. Affected by this vulnerability is the function rcube_session::unserialize of the component Session. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Roundcube Webmail before 1.6.20 and 1.7.x before 1.7.5 contains an object injection primitive in rcube_session::unserialize(). A session key prefixed with “!” was treated as having no value, and the reconstructed serialized string was emitted with a key but no corresponding value, desynchronizing the remainder of the input so that following session data was interpreted as a serialized value. This yields a PHP object injection primitive for an attacker able to influence stored session data. Upstream fixed this in the commit “Fix object injection primitive in rcube_session::unserialize() via “!”-prefixed session keys”, which rejects such keys.
The advisory is shared at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-114724 since 10/22/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 1.6.20 or 1.7.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
