Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Penta Security Systems WAPPLES 4.0.54.1/5.0/6.0. This affects an unknown part of the file /webapi/file/transfer. The manipulation of the argument name with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Penta Security WAPPLES 4.0.54.1, 5.0, and 6.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to download arbitrary files via the name parameter of /webapi/file/transfer. Attackers can send GET requests with type=db_backup and ../ sequences in name to read files like /etc/passwd, and a hardcoded systemi account makes authentication effectively trivial. Exploitation evidence was first observed by the Shadowserver Foundation on 2023-10-19.
The advisory is shared at medium.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-51025 since 10/14/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
