Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in MongoDB C# Driver up to 3.12.x. This issue affects an unknown function of the component Deserialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The MongoDB C# Driver's BSON library contains an uncontrolled resource consumption weakness in its deserialization handling of one BSON value type. An application that deserializes untrusted content with the library retains data derived from that content for the lifetime of the process, with no limit on how much accumulates. An unauthenticated remote party who can cause such content to be deserialized can drive unbounded memory growth, exhausting the host application's available memory and denying service. There is no impact to confidentiality or integrity, and no MongoDB server component is affected.
The advisory is shared at jira.mongodb.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-114644 since 10/21/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 3.13.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
