MongoDB C# Driver up to 3.12.x Client-Side Encryption missing encryption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in MongoDB C# Driver up to 3.12.x. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Client-Side Encryption. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a missing encryption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-311. The product does not encrypt sensitive or critical information before storage or transmission. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

A flaw in the client-side encryption support of the MongoDB .NET/C# driver can cause data designated for client-side field-level encryption to be written without encryption. Under certain platform text-encoding configurations, an internal name conversion loses information, so the encryption layer fails to associate the operation with its configured encryption rules and the operation proceeds without an error being raised. An application user with the ability to write data through an affected application can therefore have sensitive fields persisted in plaintext, defeating the confidentiality guarantee that client-side encryption is intended to provide. No integrity or availability impact was observed.

The advisory is available at jira.mongodb.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-114650 since 10/21/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 3.13.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at EUVD (EUVD-2026-108319) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-4126). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
