Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Lepture Mistune up to 3.2.x. Affected is the function Markdown.read of the component Include Directive. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Mistune before 3.3.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the opt-in Include directive that allows attackers to read local files by supplying relative or absolute include paths. Attackers who submit Markdown rendered via Markdown.read() can disclose files such as /etc/passwd and inject unescaped HTML or script content into rendered output.
