Bytecode Alliance Wasmtime up to 36.0.15/48.0.2/49.0.0 Dynamically-typed Val API denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Bytecode Alliance Wasmtime up to 36.0.15/48.0.2/49.0.0. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Dynamically-typed Val API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

Wasmtime before 36.0.16, 37.0.0 before 48.0.3, and 49.0.0 before 49.0.1 does not adequately account for host allocations when lifting guest values through the dynamically-typed Val API, bypassing the hostcall fuel limit. A malicious WebAssembly guest can return crafted values that allocate at least ~100x more host memory than tracked, causing denial of service.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-115389 since 10/22/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely.
