Details
A vulnerability was found in NationalSecurityAgency Ghidra up to 12.2. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function BinaryField.read of the component BinaryField. The manipulation of the argument length with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Ghidra through 12.2 contains an uncontrolled memory allocation vulnerability in BinaryField.read() that allows attackers to exhaust heap memory via an unchecked 32-bit length field. Attackers can persuade users to import a crafted GZF packed database file, triggering an OutOfMemoryError in PackedDatabase.open() that aborts the import and denies service.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-115394 since 10/22/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/22/2026).
