Details
A vulnerability was found in Part-DB up to 2.12.0. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the file .env. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Part-DB is an open source inventory management system for electronic components. Prior to version 2.12.1, the file .env committed in the Part-DB repository contains a fixed value for APP_SECRET (a03498528f5a5fc089273ec9ae5b2849). The official Docker image jbtronics/part-db1 does not override or randomize this value at container start-up. Because Symfony uses APP_SECRET (via kernel.secret) as the HMAC key for signing remember-me cookies, any attacker who knows the secret -- or fetches it from the public repository -- can forge an arbitrary-user remember-me cookie and gain a fully authenticated session with no credentials required. This issue has been patched in version 2.12.1.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-54631 since 06/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1110.001 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 2.12.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
