This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-89312. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. No exploit is available.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Google Go (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function AesGcmCryptor.Open of the component GCM. The manipulation of the argument nonce with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
`AesGcmCryptor.Open` passed a caller-supplied nonce straight to `cipher.AEAD.Open` without checking its length. The Go standard library **panics** rather than returning an error when a GCM nonce is not exactly `NonceSize()` bytes, so a JWE carrying a wrong-sized IV crashes the decrypting goroutine.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-89312 since 09/11/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/23/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-108632). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
