Details
A vulnerability was found in Eclipse KeyPont (unknown version) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function jwkFields.CheckConsistency of the component JWK Consistency Check. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
`jwkFields.CheckConsistency` detected duplicate `key_ops` entries with a pairwise nested loop, making validation cost grow with the **square** of the entry count. Because the check runs on every JWK and JWKS unmarshal, a modestly sized but hostile JWKS document could occupy a CPU core for many seconds.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-89314 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
