CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.56/7.2.10. This affects the function btrfs_uring_read_extent_endio of the component btrfs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a double free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-415. The product calls free() twice on the same memory address, potentially leading to modification of unexpected memory locations. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: always return -EIOCBQUEUED after btrfs_uring_read_extent_endio If all bios finish before btrfs_encoded_read_regular_fill_pages() returns, it calls btrfs_uring_read_extent_endio() and previously returned the I/O status. A negative errno then made btrfs_uring_read_extent() unlock and free while btrfs_uring_read_finished() did the same again. Return -EIOCBQUEUED so only the deferred path cleans up.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-98963 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/23/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.18.57 or 7.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 033dda5b321f01661de518a8d5c8607ae8675b14/a449433b0e3d4a3715d0bbee078f8c603f03c9f6/80a8dbb30d2b00b9c671b02bd73f700f6d20100f is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
