CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Executing a manipulation of the argument p2p_dev can lead to uninitialized variable. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-98964. The attack may be launched remotely. There is no exploit available. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.159/6.12.112/6.18.56/7.2.10. This vulnerability affects the function nvmet_req_alloc_p2pmem_sgls of the component nvmet. The manipulation of the argument p2p_dev with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized variable vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-457. The code uses a variable that has not been initialized, leading to unpredictable or unintended results. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvmet: use the local P2P device on metadata allocation failure nvmet_req_alloc_p2pmem_sgls() assigns req->p2p_dev only after the data and metadata SGL allocations succeed. If the data allocation succeeds but the metadata allocation fails, out_free_sg passes req->p2p_dev to pci_p2pmem_free_sgl() before that assignment has taken place. Pass the local p2p_dev argument instead, so cleanup uses the same PCI device as the successful data allocation.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-98964 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/23/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.6.160, 6.12.113, 6.18.57 or 7.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3c231142c4f4bb96836469eb276026ec55940093/32f21607911a1f69c8f0f93a6c28fe6f8490aa98/ce79a6c5cc1b8054ec8d3eba16adda4a36113438/73bf0f9579633b531098a475e6e55c9316763aed/4aa9c0f377a4de5e8fddce76b34ee4529639a1ff is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
