Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.112/6.18.56/7.2.10. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function panthor_ioctl_group_create of the file panthor_drv.c of the component panthor. The manipulation of the argument queues.count with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized variable vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-457. The code uses a variable that has not been initialized, leading to unpredictable or unintended results. Impacted is integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/panthor: validate userspace queue count against initialized firmware slot count In panthor_drv.c:panthor_ioctl_group_create(), the queue count is validated against the hardcoded maximum: if (!args->queues.count || args->queues.count > MAX_CS_PER_CSG) return -EINVAL; However, if the firmware reports fewer slots than MAX_CS_PER_CSG, panthor_fw_init_ifaces() will only initialize that smaller number of stream interfaces. If unprivileged userspace requests more queues than the firmware reported (but no more than MAX_CS_PER_CSG), cs_slot_prog_locked() fetches an uninitialized stream interface and may crash when dereferencing cs_iface->input->ringbuf_base.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-99003 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/23/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.12.113, 6.18.57 or 7.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 4487cf79bf173f2b426a02d102076f8a20d23b96/fdee3570b282a6c8699aea63fa5694355e010ec9/9be126be5f78bc331a930295af97c9b1f9158f06/ec86c43dcfff68eab4db9bdafcd3e2b16e342e18 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
