Linux Kernel up to 6.18.56/7.2.10 rust_binder DeliverToRead::cancel race condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.56/7.2.10. This impacts the function DeliverToRead::cancel of the component rust_binder. Performing a manipulation results in race condition. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2026-99075. The attack requires a local approach. No exploit exists. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.56/7.2.10. This affects the function DeliverToRead::cancel of the component rust_binder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rust_binder: reschedule node refcount update on thread exit When a thread exits via BINDER_THREAD_EXIT, its pending work items are cancelled. If a thread exits while holding a pending node refcount increment (e.g. pushed as deferred work to that thread), the refcount increment was previously dropped because Node::cancel() and NodeWrapper::cancel() were no-ops. Dropping the refcount update leaves the node's delivery state and count state desynchronized, and userspace will not receive the notification, which can cause the node to never be freed from the process's nodes tree when all external references are dropped. Fix this by implementing DeliverToRead::cancel() for Node and NodeWrapper to move the pending refcount update to the process's work queue on thread exit so another thread can deliver it to userspace.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-99075 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 6.18.57 or 7.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 71cbad138969edecef01b28dff87d91b56db538d/fb0f8dfc5a030ed3d60a1d03acdc99c90ee99fc1/2a74ccd1bcc170e66525f34e9de8652b57e2cf3d is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
