Node.js up to 24.22.0/26.12.0 TLS Hostname Verification tls.checkServerIdentity certificate validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Node.js up to 24.22.0/26.12.0. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function tls.checkServerIdentity of the component TLS Hostname Verification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a certificate validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-295. The product does not validate, or incorrectly validates, a certificate. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:

A flaw in Node.js TLS hostname verification allows a certificate without a matching IP address SAN to authenticate a connection to an IPv4 address when the host is written with non-ASCII characters, such as fullwidth digits (`127.0.0.1`). `tls.checkServerIdentity()` did not recognize such hosts as IP addresses, even though they normalize and resolve to a regular IPv4 address, and matched them against the certificate DNS names and Common Name instead. A certificate containing `DNS:127.0.0.1` or `DNS:*.0.0.1` could therefore be accepted for an IP endpoint it was not issued for. This is a regression introduced after the fix for CVE-2026-48618. This vulnerability affects Node.js **26.x** and **24.x**.

The advisory is shared for download at nodejs.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-105483 since 10/05/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/23/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1587.003.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
