Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.56/7.2.10 and classified as very critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file /CPU/AMD of the component AMD CPU. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper synchronization vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-662. The product utilizes multiple threads or processes to allow temporary access to a shared resource that can only be exclusive to one process at a time, but it does not properly synchronize these actions, which might cause simultaneous accesses of this resource by multiple threads or processes. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/CPU/AMD: Fix AMD TLBI Erratum #1718 The processor may fail to invalidate a TLB entry while executing an INVLPGB/TLBSYNC instruction pair. Detect the erratum and apply a software workaround when a microcode fix is not present.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-99099 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/26/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.57 or 7.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e3e6779f77ab6f0a1aa80e24868d2d89f31053fe/098d80b04d0fe02889c332d061db968f070b83a6/87db7795cbaaf636ae22ae031f4906db7bb77803 is able to eliminate this problem.
