Details
A vulnerability has been found in NLnet Labs Routinator (version unknown) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
Routinator runs out of memory when the JSON output is requested many times concurrently. This condition can be triggered maliciously by an attacker by opening a large number of connections to the HTTP server. Additionally Routinator runs into a stack overflow and exits when a payload item with too much metadata is discarded at once. This only affects users that make their HTTP or RTR server available to untrusted networks.
