Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in lxsmnsyc Seroval up to 0.x/1.5.5-1.6.9. Affected is the function serialize/serializeAsync/crossSerialize/crossSerializeAsync/crossSerializeStream/Serializer/compileJSON of the component JavaScript Output Serialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:
Seroval facilitates JavaScript value stringification, including complex structures beyond JSON.stringify capabilities. Prior to 1.0.0 and from 1.5.5 until 1.6.10, the JavaScript-output APIs serialize a RegExp source containing a less-than character without the escaping needed for an HTML script element. An application is affected when it builds regular expression syntax from untrusted input, serializes that RegExp through serialize, serializeAsync, crossSerialize, crossSerializeAsync, crossSerializeStream, Serializer, or compileJSON, and embeds the result in an HTML script element. The crafted source can terminate the element and execute script in the page received by another user. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.10.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-116582 since 10/26/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
Upgrading to version 1.6.10 eliminates this vulnerability.
