Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in lxsmnsyc Seroval up to 1.6.7. This issue affects the function fromJSON/fromCrossJSON. The manipulation of the argument done index with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
Seroval facilitates JavaScript value stringification, including complex structures beyond JSON.stringify capabilities. Prior to 1.6.8, fromJSON and fromCrossJSON do not validate a sequence node's done index. A crafted done index can create an iterator that never finishes when application code consumes it to completion. An unauthenticated request to a service that deserializes untrusted input can therefore block the event loop, exhaust process memory, or make the service unavailable. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.8.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-116581 since 10/26/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 1.6.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
