Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in horw esp-mcp (affected version unknown). This vulnerability affects the function asyncio.create_subprocess_shell of the component Tool Call Handler. The manipulation of the argument target/port/project_path/project_name with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
esp-mcp through commit 28afddf contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows attackers to run arbitrary commands by supplying shell metacharacters in MCP tool parameters. Attackers influencing agent tool calls through prompt injection can inject metacharacters into target, port, project_path, or project_name values passed to asyncio.create_subprocess_shell, executing commands as the MCP server user.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-117567 since 10/27/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
