Linux Kernel up to 6.18.58/7.2.12 ksmbd smb2_get_info_filesystem information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.58/7.2.12. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function smb2_get_info_filesystem of the component ksmbd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: initialize FileSystemControlFlags in FS_CONTROL_INFORMATION smb2_get_info_filesystem() reports 48 bytes for FS_CONTROL_INFORMATION, that is the whole of struct smb2_fs_control_info, but never assigns FileSystemControlFlags. Those four bytes go to the client as they are found in the response buffer. The buffer is zeroed on allocation, so a standalone request leaks nothing. A compound request can leak: the offset of the next response is advanced by the length pinned for the previous one, so a reply that was written into the buffer and then dropped in favour of the short error response of smb2_set_err_rsp() stays there, and the next reply is laid over it with only the header cleared. ksmbd does not implement quota tracking, so report no control flags.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-99114 since 09/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 10/28/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

Upgrading to version 6.18.59 or 7.2.13 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d8c450ad0d08980b39b08d435efa921086c8b227/03bb4338c3a7c3fc4decf699a35753f0891aab2a/c0cd3fc6824122014da2b3b0cb7ddeaa2946ec8e is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
