Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Wing Soft Wing FTP Server up to 8.2.5. This affects an unknown functionality of the component Base Folder Verification. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Wing FTP Server does not verify user's base folder. An attacker with admin privileges can add user directories via scripts, allowing the added directories to escape the base folder. This allows the attacker to write files on the system and can lead to remote code execution with process owner privileges.Critically, since the installation guide mentions running the command with `sudo`, the files are created as “root.” This issue was fixed in version 8.2.6.
