Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Highcharts up to 12.6.0/13.0.x. This vulnerability affects the function innerHTML of the component Chart Rendering. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:
Highcharts JS is a JavaScript charting library based on SVG. From 12.0.0 until 12.6.1 and 13.1.0, Highcharts falls back to assigning raw markup to innerHTML when DOMParser cannot return a document, before its allow-list is applied. In Chromium, the Trusted Types callback can throw while a beforeprint handler runs, so a page that redraws a chart during beforeprint can insert untrusted HTML text options into the hosting document. Event handlers in that markup then run in the page origin when printing begins. The issue affects HTML-rendered titles, labels, data labels, responsive text, and the Stock, Maps, and Gantt products shipped in the same package. This issue is fixed in 12.6.1 and 13.1.0.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-118244 since 10/27/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
Upgrading to version 12.6.1 or 13.1.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
