Details
A vulnerability was found in Highcharts up to 13.0.x. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a prototype pollution vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1321. The product receives input from an upstream component that specifies attributes that are to be initialized or updated in an object, but it does not properly control modifications of attributes of the object prototype. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Highcharts JS is a JavaScript charting library based on SVG. From 13.0.0 until 13.1.0, Highcharts builds series data columns by using point option keys directly as column IDs. Own enumerable __proto__ and constructor keys from parsed point objects can therefore direct integer-indexed writes to Object.prototype or the Object constructor. The inherited values affect reads and for-in enumeration across the page and can disrupt rendering or alter consuming application behavior without user interaction beyond rendering the chart. This issue is fixed in 13.1.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-118249 since 10/27/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 13.1.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
