Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in siyuan-note SiYuan up to 3.8.8. This affects the function importStdMd of the component Path Normalization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
SiYuan 3.8.7 through 3.8.8 fails to normalize Windows GLOBALROOT device-namespace aliases, bypassing the IsSensitivePath denylist. Attackers can invoke importStdMd with a GLOBALROOT-prefixed path to copy the API token and TLS private key into the publicly served assets directory.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-118680 since 10/28/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/28/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
