Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Elastic Cloud Enterprise up to 3.8.5/4.2.0. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Certificate Rotation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a file information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-538. The product places sensitive information into files or directories that are accessible to actors who are allowed to have access to the files, but not to the sensitive information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Insertion of Sensitive Information into Externally-Accessible File or Directory (CWE-538) in Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE) can lead to privilege escalation via Retrieve Embedded Sensitive Data (CAPEC-37). After the ECE certificate rotation procedure runs, data that it retains contains platform credentials and certificate authority private keys, and lower-privileged platform components can read this data. An attacker who controls any host in the installation can use this data to get full control of the ECE control plane and of the deployments that it manages.
