Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in RT-Labs P-Net up to 1.0.2. Affected is the function pf_eth_recv. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
P-Net before 1.0.3 does not validate the length of a received Ethernet frame in pf_eth_recv() before reading the EtherType, any VLAN tags and the PROFINET FrameID. The VLAN tag loop had no upper bound, so a truncated frame, or a frame consisting only of VLAN tags, makes the function read past the end of the receive buffer. This can cause a crash (denial of service) or disclose memory content.
The advisory is shared for download at rt-labs.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-111734 since 10/16/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 1.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
