Details
A vulnerability was found in XenSource Xen Para Virtualized Frame Buffer (Virtualization Software) (version unknown). It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the component Mapping. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The backend for XenSource Xen Para Virtualized Frame Buffer (PVFB) in Xen ioemu does not properly restrict the frame buffer size, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) by mapping an arbitrary amount of guest memory.
The weakness was published 06/23/2008 by Jan Lieskovsky (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xenbits.xensource.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-1952 since 04/24/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
