A vulnerability has been found in IBM Lotus Notes 8.x (Groupware Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component cai URI Handler. Argument injection vulnerability in IBM Lotus Notes 8.0.x before 8.0.2 FP6 and 8.5.x before 8.5.1 FP5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a cai:// URL containing a --launcher.library option that specifies a UNC share pathname for a DLL file, aka SPR PRAD82YJW2.
The weakness was presented 02/08/2011 by rgod with ZDI (Website). The advisory is shared for download at zerodayinitiative.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-0912 since 02/08/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370379 (IBM Lotus Notes and Domino Multiple Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities (swg21461514)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at www-01.ibm.com.
