Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 9.10. This affects the function seg6_input_core of the component SRv6 Input Processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
A flaw was found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 kernel builds. An incomplete backport of the CVE-2026-46099 fix in RHEL 9.6 through 9.10 left a local_bh imbalance in seg6_input_core(), where the drop path returns with bottom halves still disabled. This can lead to softirq starvation and denial of service on systems with SRv6 tunnels configured. Upstream and RHEL 10 are not affected.
The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-118593 since 10/28/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/30/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
