Project-MONAI up to 1.6.0 Auto3DSeg algo_object.json algo_from_json code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Project-MONAI MONAI up to 1.6.0. This vulnerability affects the function algo_from_json of the file algo_object.json of the component Auto3DSeg. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

MONAI from 1.6.0 before 1.6.1 contains a remote code execution vulnerability in Auto3DSeg algo_from_json() that allows attackers to run Python code via a crafted work directory's algo_object.json. Attackers can ship a malicious algorithm_templates module plus a _target_ name that is imported and instantiated when victims call AutoRunner or import_bundle_algo_history, executing code under default configuration.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-119578 since 10/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
