Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in CallBackery up to 0.61.x. This affects the function restoreConfigBlob of the component Configuration Backup. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
CallBackery versions before 0.62.0 for Perl allow OS command execution via sqlite3 shell commands in a restored configuration backup. restoreConfigBlob() feeds the database dump in a backup to the sqlite3 command-line shell. The shell runs lines starting with a dot as its own commands, so .shell or .system in the dump runs an OS command and .load loads native code. Anyone who can supply a backup to be restored can run arbitrary commands as the application user.
The advisory is shared at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-118992 since 10/29/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
