CallBackery up to 0.61.x hmac_sha1_sum hash without salt

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2026-13576. The attack may be performed from remote. There is no available exploit. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in CallBackery up to 0.61.x and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function hmac_sha1_sum. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hash without salt vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-759. The product uses a one-way cryptographic hash against an input that should not be reversible, such as a password, but the product does not also use a salt as part of the input. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

CallBackery versions before 0.62.0 for Perl store user passwords as unsalted HMAC-SHA1 hashes. Passwords are hashed with hmac_sha1_sum() from Mojo::Util with no key, a single fast SHA-1 HMAC. There is no salt, so equal passwords give equal hashes, and no work factor slows down guessing. An attacker who obtains the user table can recover passwords by fast offline guessing.

The advisory is available at metacpan.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-13576 since 06/28/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1110.002 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
