Blender up to 4.5.14/5.2.2 Thumbnail thumb_data_vertical_flip integer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Blender up to 4.5.14/5.2.2. This vulnerability affects the function thumb_data_vertical_flip of the component Thumbnail. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Blender before 4.5.15 and 5.x before 5.2.3 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the blend file thumbnail extractor caused by 32-bit integer overflow in thumb_data_vertical_flip(). Attackers can craft a .blend file with malicious TEST block dimensions that trigger an out-of-bounds write when blender-thumbnailer or the Windows shell extension previews it, causing crashes or code execution.

The advisory is shared for download at projects.blender.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-119719 since 10/30/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
