Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Scribus up to 1.6.6. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component PICT Image Loader. The manipulation of the argument bytesPerLine with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Scribus before 1.6.7 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the PICT image loader and import plugin that allows attackers to corrupt heap memory by supplying an unchecked bytesPerLine value. Attackers can craft a PICT file whose bytesPerLine exceeds the QImage scanline size, so placing or importing it crashes Scribus and may execute code as the user.
