Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Tesseract up to 5.5.3. This affects the function GENERIC_2D_ARRAY::DeSerializeSize of the file src/ccstruct/matrix.h of the component Deserialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Tesseract is an open source OCR engine. Prior to 5.5.4, GENERIC_2D_ARRAY::DeSerializeSize in src/ccstruct/matrix.h reads matrix dimensions as signed int32_t values and compares them only with UINT16_MAX, allowing negative values to reach ResizeNoInit. Negative dimensions or a 65535 by 65535 product can create inconsistent allocation state and later out-of-bounds accesses while loading a crafted traineddata file, causing denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 5.5.4.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-119340 since 10/29/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 5.5.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
