Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in MediaTek MT2716, MT6835, MT6858, MT6878, MT6881, MT6897, MT6899, MT6899, MT6982, MT6986, MT6988, MT6991, MT6993, MT8668, MT8676, MT8678, MT8755, MT8775, MT8792, MT8793, MT8863, MT8873, MT8875 and MT8883. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Modem. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In Modem, there is a possible out of bounds read due to an integer overflow. This could lead to remote denial of service, if a UE has connected to a rogue base station controlled by the attacker, with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation. Patch ID: MOLY01755742; Issue ID: MSV-8896.
The advisory is shared at mediatek.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-20598 since 11/03/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
Applying the patch MOLY01755742 is able to eliminate this problem.
