Details
A vulnerability was found in Eclipse ThreadX up to 6.5.2.202603. It has been classified as very critical. Affected is the function PendSV handler of the component Cortex-M module ports. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In Eclipse ThreadX versions 6.0.1 through 6.5.2.202603, the PendSV handler of the Cortex-M module ports saves a preempted user-mode module thread's registers in privileged mode at addresses taken from the thread's stack pointer, without checking that pointer against the thread's stack. A user-mode, memory-protected module can thereby write up to nine words, eight of its choosing, or 25 with floating-point state, into memory immediately below any region it may write, and read back what is stored there.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-115653 since 10/23/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/02/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
